COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS...

We have had several people ask why our tuition is higher than others who teach the same class; and we've been asked why our class takes 9 hours while others teach the same material in 3 or 4 hours?

The 9-hour course curriculum is mandated and approved by the LA Dept. of Public Safety & Corrections and the LA State Police Handgun Permit Unit. It makes for a long day, but we have found that most people would rather complete the course in one day and not have to worry about returning for a 2nd day of training.  We agree.

Cutting corners by rushing through the material in 3-4 hours is both dangerous and illegal.  Additionally, it does a disservice to the community, to you and to other CCW Permittees.

The decision to carry a concealed weapon is not to be taken lightly.  The topics covered in this course (use of deadly force, safe and proper storage of firearms around children, basic handgun marksmanship, etc.) deserve proper attention no matter how familiar you might already  be with handguns.

The decision on which instructor you use is also one that should not be taken lightly.  Make sure your instructor is reputable by asking for referrals; also make sure they are licensed, insured and that they are teaching the required material set forth by the Dept. of Public Safety & Corrections and the LA State Police.

You can rest assured that, after you complete our course, you will be armed with the most effective weapon of all: KNOWLEDGE.  Don't just take our word for it.  Look at what some of our past graduates have said by clicking HERE.

1. What do I need to bring to the class?

a. handgun of choice (semi-automatic or revolver)

b. holster (required)
   c. 100 rounds of new ammunition (factory ammo only,
NO RELOADS! No Exceptions)
   d. eye & ear protection (required) e.
pen/pencil f. study guide

e. wear clothing that can get wet and/or dirty (or bring a dry change of clothes)

2. What if I don't own a handgun?
You don't need to rush out to buy a handgun before taking the course.  In fact we spend
time discussing pros and cons of different calibers and models.  This information will help you
decide which handgun to buy for yourself.  If you are attending with a friend, you can take
turns using the same handgun.  We also have an assortment of pistols you can rent for $15.         Whether you borrow or rent, make sure you bring your own ammo (100 factory "target" rounds).

3.  Are reservations required?
Yes, reservations are required. Due to limited seating arrangements, your reservation
cannot be confirmed until we receive your $50 deposit.  Once paid, deposits are non-
refundable.  You may mail your deposit to 51005 Hwy 445, Loranger, La. 70446.

Begin the reservation process by clicking HERE.

4.
Is my permit limited to the handgun that I qualify with?
No. Your permit is similar to a Driver's License in the sense that a driver's license allows
you to legally drive any car.  In the same way your CCW Permit allows you to legally carry
any handgun, concealed on your person.

5. What are the requirements to obtain a permit?
     1. Take this class to obtain a certificate.
     2. Click HERE for a checklist of things needed to apply for your permit.
     3. Visit the LA State Police website for details (we provide the paperwork in your student
manual, so there's no need to print anything from this site.)

6. What types of handguns can be used in the course?
Any semi-automatic or revolver pistol in good working condition.  Make sure (BEFORE you
arrive) that your handgun is in good working condition!  The certificate we issue will certify
you to carry both types of pistols.

7. What if it's raining on the day of the class?
The class will be held, rain or shine, except in extreme weather situations (i.e.where
evacuations are necessary).  If the weather is too severe to complete the Live-fire
portion of the course we will re-schedule the Live-fire portion for another day.  Wear
clothes that can get wet and/or dirty.

8. How much is the tuition for the class?
$110 (Tuition is $100 and the study guide is $10).  The study guide includes all the
paperwork you need to apply for your permit with the State Police (application, checklist,
affidavits and other forms.)  There are no other fees unless you choose to purchase
ammunition or rent a handgun. Groups of 8 or more who attend the same class are eligible
for a discount; call for details.

9. How much does it cost to get a permit?
Currently, the Department of Public Safety & Corrections charges $125.00 for a 5 year permit. The      state requires you to take the course again to renew your permit prior to expiration. This is in addition to  the tuition for our class.

10. What if I need to renew my existing permit?
The state requires you to re-take the course.  Call us for details and special pricing.

11. I'm a veteran. Do I need to take the course?
If your DD-214 indicates you have received "small arms" training within the past 60
months you don't have to take this course.  However, you must realize that Military Laws
vary considerably from Civil Laws.  We spend a great deal of time discussing Louisiana
Revised Statutes pertaining to Concealed Carry, Use of Deadly Force and other issues
not covered in your military training.  Although you may not be required to take this course
as a Pre-requisite you will still be held accountable to the Civil Laws if you are ever involved
in any type of incident with your handgun.  We strongly urge you to take this course.

If you received anything other than an "honorable discharge"  you will likely not be approved
for a permit.  For more information contact the LA State Police Handgun Permit Unit at
     225-925-4867.

12. What if I have a CCW Permit from another state?

Check with that state to see what they want you to do with the permit; most likely they
require you to return it because it became invalid as soon as you moved out of state.
You must be a Louisiana resident for at least 6 months before applying for a permit
and you must take this course as a pre-requisite before applying for a new permit from
the State of Louisiana even though you already had a permit from another state.

13. How old do you have to be to take the course?
Anyone can take the course but you must be at least 21 years old to apply for a CCW
permit.  The material covered and the drills we teach/practice are very helpful to anyone
old enough to handle a handgun, but we require parents to reserve a seat for themselves
and attend with anyone under 18 years old.
